Jiamia, also Black Butterfly, is an organizer and yoga teacher that believes in holistic healing along with community care. Jiamia grew up seeing her elders engage in yoga and dancing as a form of freedom, which evolved in a love for dance and yogic practice over time throughout her lifetime. Black Butterfly is a nurturer that will introduce practices of restorative yoga, vinyasa, breathwork/meditation and affirmation-based setting to her attendees. Black Butterfly’s experience in group facilitation dates back to 2015 where she began (and continues) her work serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Furthermore, Black Butterfly is a human rights enthusiast and an advocate for bodily autonomy. As a 200 hour registered yoga instructor, Black Butterfly approaches yogic practice from a trauma informed, human centered lens. Black Butterfly teaches various practices of self-regulation and self-healing for people of all ages and backgrounds to address dormant energy stored in the mind, body, and spirit. Black Butterfly provides safe space for people to come as they are and to build a personal relationship with the practice that prioritizes self-care.
